Italian same‐sex parenting in times of <scp>COVID</scp>‐19: Constructing parenthood on insecure grounds

Abstract Objective This article focuses on the challenges same‐sex‐parent families in Italy have faced context of COVID‐19 crisis. Background It is universally acknowledged that was first victim novel coronavirus Europe. Due to hazards caused by pandemic, Italian government implemented a series countermeasures help families, resolving increasingly irreconcilable conflicts between work and childcare, providing financing most poverty‐stricken families. However, some initiatives made it clear Italy, not all people received equal benefits. Method To further investigate bring awareness issue vulnerability times COVID‐19, 40 in‐depth interviews were conducted online March June 2020 collect data attitudes, opinions, behaviors at individual level. Results homosexual fathers mothers, due still uncertain regulatory framework, been invisible face bureaucracy remaining deeply rooted rigid obsolete vision social reality. Conclusion should take into account possible redefinition family both political institutional levels. The concept expected be broader closer reality, encompassing patterns constitute real supportive network for people, full respect people's dignity self‐determination.
